In Search of a Ghost Writer ::::: San Francisco Chronicle Printing Plant

The covered walkway to the cafeteria, at the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper printing plant, closed down and abandoned in 2009.  Based on the clean up work going on inside, demolition appears imminent.

Deceptively complex to set up, this image was layered from two 400+ second exposures.  Because most of the doors are welded shut, the lighting on the interior and tree (through the window off camera left) required a long walk around the building to the only open door.  Virtually all of those 400 second exposures were spent walking to and from the spot where I did my lighting.

Thank you for this series, Troy. I guess it’s a shame/waste? It’s an interesting looking building but I suppose it was a special-built structure. Maybe a limited reuse?

You’re welcome. More to come . . . It appears to be being prepared for demolition.
