Singapore Night

Singapore local Martin Liew took me out shooting on the one night I had free before the TV shoot.  We hit two abandoned locations, the first a destroyed (burned down?) plantation building (?) in the Novena district shown in this post.  I found this spot myself, just hiking around in the afternoon.  Singapore’s 100% humidity made lens fogging a constant problem, and the intense light from the surrounding residential districts forced me to keep the exposures short.  Yeah, I’m looking for some history on this building.  Got some?  Then please share it with me!

Brick Juxtaposition

30 second exposure with some Stinger flashlight on the bricks.  The camera was set up in what was once the basement.

Central Location

Between the volume of sodium vapor light and constant lens fogging, this 141 second exposure was really pushing the limits of the location.  I can’t stress enough how humid and wet everything is here, especially standing in knee-high weeds.  There’s a little stinger flashlight on that tree growing out of the stairs, the rest is local light.

Novena Reclamation

Yes, that’s a tree growing out of the stairs.  No dirt, it’s just popping right out of the stones.  A green gelled strobe pop and some lime-gelled stinger flashlight.  74 second exposure, basically, that’s how long it took me to light it.

Pink Plaster

36 second exposure, pink and purple-gelled strobe.  Pointed almost straight up, from the basement.

Crusty Spires

30 second exposure, red and purple-gelled strobe.  Love that red light in the apartment building.
