Metallic Pea ::::: 1979 Chevy Malibu Classic Estate Wagon

Metallic Pea

A 1983 Wagon Queen Family Truckster . . . actually it’s a plain old ’79 Malibu Classic Estate Wagon . . . in a Central California junkyard.  That stuff on the sides that looks like the remnants of wood paneling?  Rust.  82-seconds under a full moon.  Lime and red-set Protomachine flashlight.

The Nazca Lines

1930s Ford-based movie prop airport fuel truck (from “Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull”), part of the collection at Eagle Field. Shot during a Central Valley summer sunset, with mosquitoes chewing my limbs off. Composite of two 30-second exposures. Red and lemon/lime-set Protomachine flashlight.

At the Altar

Planted school bus, on special occasions it’s filled with flammable materials and lit like a giant, mutant, olympic flame. 295-second exposure, lit with red and blue-set Protomachine flashlight.

Surrealist Games

I still have a few images to post from this crazy art project in the middle of Nevada I shot last summer. That’s the full moon rising into that afternoon’s thunderheads. An hour later, all the clouds were gone. Composite of four 3-minute-ish exposures, lit with the Protomachine flashlight.

The broken floor was patched with sheet metal, so the camera wobbled if you were inside moving around. It forced me to only light through windows and open doors. I did […]

The World In Your Nose

Overwhelmed by the volume of people viewing my work this week, thanks to the flickr blog appearance, hope you enjoy looking around the Lost America site. Don’t forget to visit the workshops, books and prints pages! Super rare (in California) 1958 Ford Taunus in storage in a California junkyard.  This baked-enamel globe hood ornament is […]

Pitot Bolo

Just back from hosting a great little 3-night (secret) alumni workshop at Paul’s Junkyard.  Wow, lots of changes afoot in the yard . . .  Plus we spent a night in his other yard–filled with a trainload of vehicular mutants and ancient oddities.  Good times!  The nacelle was lit with a Protomachine flashlight set to […]
