Visited the Big M for a sweltering, (almost) all-nighter in August, braving giant swarms of blood-thirsty mosquitoes and ridiculously large and easily irritated spiders, ready for any opportunity to bury their fangs in your neck. Even with coating myself in deet every hour or so, I left covered with painful welts . . . but […]
Spiders In Her Armpit
Static display inside the totally dark hangar at Eagle Field. There was a hole in the fuselage behind her, so I was able to get red light glowing up from behind her. I also used warm and cool white light to balance the rest of the scene. Protomachine flashlight.
The Wayward Bus
467-seconds under the full moon at Paul’s Junkyard last April. This Navy bus was rendered in the pit just days after I shot it.
Purple Ultrapeel
One of the old barracks buildings at Eagle Field. I don’t think it’s been painted since 1942. Purple, red and lime Protomachine light, skimmed from numerous directions, in total darkness.
The Dolphin Vortex
Inside the Dolphin’s Tail. Smelled funny in here . . . Protomachine flashlight set to 2 shades of green and red. 59-second exposure.
Stage 3 Separation
Parts were spread all over. Here’s the back half of the jet trainer, floating in space. Lit with the Protomachine flashlight during a 65-second exposure in total darkness.
Spillway
Inside the 40′ high spillway beneath a dam, this is where the water splits . . . Actually, it’s the split air induction tunnels inside a disassembled Aero L29 Delphin jet trainer, and it’s only a foot tall. This is looking forward, inside the center of the fuselage, just ahead of the engine. Shot in […]
Cyrillic Gauges
Cockpit of the Aero L-29 Delphin undergoing restoration at Eagle Field. The tripod was set at full extension and I was lighting from ladders on both sides of the plane to get this shot. Lit with the Protomachine flashlight in total darkness.
Wingroot Patina
An Aero L29 Delphin, a 1960s Czech Military jet trainer, undergoing restoration in the hangar at Eagle Field. This airframe was in a million pieces, spread out all over the hangar floor. Since March, when I shot this, it’s been reassembled and is almost complete. The owner insists he’s going to fly it when it’s […]
