The Purple Beam ::::: Grantsville, Nevada

The Purple Beam

Another derelict building at the base of a giant pile of mine tailings at Grantsville, Nevada.  Founded after an 1863 gold strike, by 1885 the mine had mostly played out. It limped along until 1947, when the 50-building town was completely abandoned.  Only a few structures remain. More Protomachine lighting, the interior was lit from […]

Moonporch  :::::  Grantsville, Nevada

Moonporch

The abandoned mining complex at Grantsville, Nevada. Definitely off the map. Here’s an example of the Protomachines light I’ve been testing this summer dialed almost all the way down: very low power, color almost totally desaturated. Warm pale orange on the wood walls, cool pale blue light on the floor and ceiling.  Full moon, 2-minute […]

A tilted early ’60s Cadillac, incorporated into the walls and sculptures at Thunder Mountain Indian Monument near Winnemucca, Nevada.  Lit with a beta-test version of the amazing Protomachines flashlight. Red, lime and turquoise light mixed with full moon light during a 92 second exposure.

C10 911  :::::  Paul's Junkyard  :::::  September 2011

C10 911

Happy Independence Day.  Hope you get a chance to see some sparks tonight. Shot on the 10th anniversary of 9/11 at Paul’s Junkyard, when Paul raised the flag on the extended ladder of one of his old fire trucks.  This pick up was cut in half for use as a movie prop. A wide variety […]

The Gassy Hit Man ::::: June 2012

The Gassy Hit Man

When my old friend Greg said “Hey man, I see you’re finally taking pictures of people.  You should come out to the woods and take pictures of us shooting my guns!” I jumped at the opportunity. Here’s Greg’s Nephew John, firing a 9mm Ruger in cook’s whites and a Russian Army gas mask.  We found […]

Underwater Tomorrow  :::::  February 2012

Underwater Tomorrow

Six minutes with the camera propped almost vertical on a rolled up towel, on the rim of the dry dock (visible in yesterday’s image), under the screw of the Jeremiah O’Brien.  Full moon and a wide variety of other local light.

Moonwalk Catwalk  :::::  February 2012

Moonwalk Catwalk

The towering bow of the Jeremiah O’Brien liberty ship, in a San Francisco dry dock, February 2012.  Another of those moments where I was backed upright to the edge of the dock.  One step further back and the camera and I are in the drink.  Placement here was complex: I wanted the moon to be […]
