Abandoned bread truck between the derelict barracks buildings at Wendover AFB. Red LED flashlight inside and a little AA Maglite on the front of the truck. Lightly during a 3-minute exposure.
Blue Barracks
Abandoned WWII barracks at Wendover AFB (Interstate 80 at the NV/UT state line) in the last hour before dawn. The previous evening we had been chased back to the car by a howling wind/dust storm that made shooting impossible, so we crossed back into Nevada where the big shiny casinos are and had a relaxed […]
Hearth and Home
Collapsing brick house at Grantsville Nevada, a completely abandoned 19th-century ghost town, near Gabbs. Powered-down, desaturated tertiary colors, created with the Protomachines flashlight, blended with full moon light during a 1-minute exposure.
Stamping Under the Stars
Six minute exposure under the full moon, inside the collapsing stamp mill at the Grantsville Mine. Lit with the ultra-powerful, HSB control, Proromachines flashlight.
The Grantsville Mine
By far, the real draw of the remote Grantsville, Nevada, mining district is the mine itself. This is a stack of four 10 minute exposures, lit by pure moonlight. Freezing cold, 2AM.
Spitting Stars
Late at night at an abandoned reservation roadhouse in central Nevada, as semi’s stream by on Interstate 80. Plain old AA maglite for a few seconds during a 316 second exposure.

First time I visited the abandoned Grantsville, Nevada mining district in 2001 there was a very large, very old Caterpillar bulldozer parked beside the mill. It was almost complete. Visiting again in May 2012 I found it almost completely gone. Metal scrappers had used blowtorches to carve it into manageable pieces and dragged them to […]

Brick House of the Holy
Another one lit with my beta-test version of the Protomachines light, from the abandoned mining town of Grantsville in central Nevada. The PM is an amazing new light painting tool that gives total control of hue, saturation and brightness, allowing a virtually unlimited range of color and intensity of the light. For this 10 minute exposure […]
