Mike Mercury

Mike Mercury

1957 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser at The Big M.  Sold as “The Car of Tomorrow” this automobile was loaded with one of a kind space-age features.  Probably the most bizarre and least imitated were these “Twin Jet” air intakes at the top corners of the windshield that sported small radio antennas.  Imagine what that would do to a pedestrian!

I started this set up because there was a gigantic spider hanging from the antenna, but by the time I got the camera set up I accidentally bumped the web and he disappeared into the vent.  So I ended up shooting this amazing detail on it’s own.  That’s rising full moon light on the left and the rest was lit with natural and red LED flashlights.  It took a few tries to get the shadow of the steering wheel to fall in a good place.  Composite of 2 images: interior and exterior.
