April 2012 Workshop Announcement

April 2012 Workshop! ::::: The Monster in the Back Seat

Yes, it’s that time again!  Joe Reifer and I are holding another night photography and light painting workshop at the amazing Paul’s Junkyard near Lancaster, California.  We opened registration to our mailing list last week and almost filled it, but there’s still a few spots left.

April 5/6/7 (thursday, friday, saturday) The basic format of our workshop hasn’t changed; it’s still 3 days of classroom demos and critiques of your work and 3 nights of shooting, with plenty of late afternoon scouting time.

Part Hollywood-prop-graveyard, part hardcore metal-recycling facility, this location has to be seen to be believed:
Some of my work at Paul’s.
Joe’s work at Paul’s.
Student work at Paul’s from the previous workshops.

The creative potential here is widely varied and virtually unlimited.  A full schedule and detailed information is all outlined on the official workshop page.  Tuition is $900 by check or paypal.  Just e-mail me to lock in your spot and arrange payment.

Hope you can make it~!

The Monster In The Back Seat
Last fall I was helping a student capture the dashboard of this 1960 Chrysler Imperial Limousine (heavily customized for use in the film Lemony Snickett).  As he was lighting the interior from the back seat, I stood at the end of the hood and saw the potential for this shot, so I set up here when he was done.  Lime-gelled LED from above, straight down on the dashboard and red LED from the back seat, through the torn head liner.  I also used the red from the left side to pull out the mirror and edge of the dangling headliner giving the left side of the composition a place for your eye to rest.
