A 67-second exposure, basically just long enough to add snooted LED flashlight from a shallow angle on the light and logo assembly and some purple-gelled LED on the bumper and wet and dirty rear window. Yeah, this was late, wet and chilly enough that dew point had been reached, giving all the surfaces a nice […]
Bag Popper
One of the late-model insurance cases in the Stockton junkyard. The yard was jammed with crashed cars. This Pontiac had been cannibalized pretty completely. Red LED flashlight pointed at the camera from in front of the car. It took a few tries to get the reflection in the puddle placed exactly where I wanted it. […]
Automatic Drip
Bumbled my way into a new junkyard last week near Stockton California. Took a lot of convincing, but the manager ended up letting me stay to shoot until 11. The yard is mostly contemporary cars (ie: about 10 years old), definitely a departure for me, but I still managed to find plenty to shoot and […]
The Combine Vortex
A little slow on the postings this week. I’m in the process of reconstructing the entire lostamerica.com universe, using wordpress. The idea is to have the site not rely on flash, so it will run on Android and iStuff. This blog will be seamlessly integrated into the site. Huge job, but I’m over the hump on it […]
SR-71
Digging thru some folders last night I found these images shot in 2008 that never ended up online anyplace. SR-71 Blackbird, airframe 61-7960, at the Castle Air Museum. A rather dirty and unkempt aircraft . . . just the way I like ’em. May be the coolest plane ever. Lit by local ambient light and a […]
Munz Island
Munz Ranch, west of Lancaster, in the Antelope Valley. I rolled by in the late afternoon and spoke to the guy who was house-sitting for the Munz family. He invited me back to shoot later that night . . . so long as I brought him back a half-gallon of milk, so he wouldn’t have […]
Mike Mercury
1957 Mercury Turnpike Cruiser at The Big M. Sold as “The Car of Tomorrow” this automobile was loaded with one of a kind space-age features. Probably the most bizarre and least imitated were these “Twin Jet” air intakes at the top corners of the windshield that sported small radio antennas. Imagine what that would do […]
Lawn Monster
Munz Ranch, near Lancaster, California. It’s a tractor grille sitting in the weeds. The camera was taken off the tripod and set flat on the ground for this. Backlit with red LED flashlight and toplit with blue-gelled LED.
Effie Dreams
1950 Ford F-150 waiting for a new life at Paul’s junkyard. The ground and truck are a 2-minute exposure with blue-gelled strobe and snooted LED flashlight in the headlights. The sky is a 4 minute exposure to get the right amount of cloud movement.
