Puppy Wants a Treat

It’s the happiest-looking motor-tester in the world!  I bet his nose is wet and cold. Natural and purple-gelled LED flashlight in total darkness.

Fright Weightliner  :::::  Paul's Junkyard  :::::  October 2011

Fright Weightliner

1970s-vintage cabover White Freightliner, tucked away in a corner at Paul’s Junkyard.  This is a stack of three 6 and 7-minute exposures, for approximately 20-minute star trails.  I just let the camera run while I was helping a student during a workshop.  Full moon and starlight only.

The Dumpsters of Leisure ::::: Paul's Junkyard ::::: September 2011

The Dumpsters of Leisure

Junked “Leisure World” dumpsters, a ’68-ish Road Runner (with a fake blower on the hood), a Bucyrus-Erie crane and a little heat lightning in the distance . . . at Paul’s Junkyard. Lime-gelled LED flashlight on the crane, snooted blue LED on the headlights and a little natural LED on the dumpster’s shadow side.  216-second […]

Bubbles  :::::  Paul's Junkyard  :::::  October 2011

Bubbles

A 3-wheeled flatbed scooter-truck!  No idea what this is, is it a Cushman?  It seems German to me.  My research has come up blank.  I’m sure someone will tell me what this gem is any second now . . . EDIT: Yep, I knew someone would figure it out.  It’s a Diahatsu Midget, aka Tri-Mobile. […]

The End of the Roach Coach ::::: Paul's Junkyard ::::: September 2011

The End of the Roach Coach

Movie prop catering truck (blown up for “CSI”) circling the drain at Paul’s Junkyard.  Pretty sure this thing’s gone by now. What made me stop to shoot it in the first place was the converging perspective lines and multiple planes of depth in the scene.  I liked the way the moonlight was grazing the front […]

Shiny Side Down  :::::  Paul's Junkyard  :::::  September 2011

Shiny Side Down

Nissan Altima after a rollover crash.  This car was on its way to the crusher at Paul’s Junkyard when I shot it and is long gone now.  Fascinating how the bits of broken glass seem to have embedded themselves into the body.  I lit it to accentuate this weird  phenomenon.  Natural and red LED flashlight […]

Flash  :::::  Paul's Junkyard  :::::  September 2011

Flash

Just spent the last 3 days laid out with the flu.  Fever, aches, nausea.  I think I turned my guts inside out, coughing lung-butter into the kitchen sink.  Pretty miserable.  Now that I’m finally coming out of it, an ambulance image feels appropriate. Several pops of blue-gelled strobe inside the car from the far side. […]

Steel Cage  :::::  Paul's Junkyard  :::::  October 2011

Steel Cage

For you Daytona 500 fans.  Stock car scraps at Paul’s Junkyard.  Undoubtedly a movie prop of some kind, there are several of these on the lot.  It was lit with a single hand-held strobe: blue-gelled through the rear window, red-gelled from camera-right and a yellow gelled pop through the tumbleweeds.  It all took place in […]

Impala Crinkle  :::::  Paul's Junkyard  :::::  September 2011

Impala Crinkle

A smooshed 1964 Chevrolet Impala station wagon, under unsettled skies during a workshop at Paul’s Junkyard.  179 second exposure, blue-gelled strobe, bounced red LED flashlight.

Rocket Chrysalis  :::::  Paul's Junkyard  :::::  October 2011

Rocket Chrysalis

Corroded jet engine, still in its rusty, partially opened shipping cell.  Paul’s Junkyard is a truly amazing place. Yellow and red-gelled LED flashlight.  57 second exposure in total darkness.
